Will Janus Hurt iTunes?
NewsFactor Network - Woodland Hills,CA,USA
What subscription customers cannot do with their music is copy it to another
device or burn CDs from their playlists. Janus allows users to license a
specific song for a specific period. When that license ends, the music
disappears.
In the wake of the impressive success of Apple's Latest News about Apple iTunes
music download service, Napster Latest News about Napster has come roaring back
with a new business model and campaign of its own.
"Do the Math," it implores music shoppers. The math, it contends, will lead many
to conclude that they should subscribe to Napster To Go for US$14.95 per month
and download all the music they want instead of paying $0.99 per song on iTunes.
There is a catch, though, in terms of exactly what customers can and cannot do
with that music. "For 99 cents, you buy the music," Yankee Group's Mike Goodman
told NewsFactor. "That means you essentially own it and can copy it."
