profit, revenue more than triple MarketWatch - USA
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- SigmaTel Inc. on Tuesday reported first
quarter profit more than tripled as the maker of mixed-signal semiconductors
posted an equally solid gain for revenue versus a year ago.
SigmaTel (SGTL: news, chart, profile) earned $2.5 million, or 68 cents a share,
on $99.3 million in revenue. During the same period a year ago, the mixed-signal
chipmaker earned $6.9 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $31.5 million.
Excluding one-time items, Sigmatel would have earned $25.4 million, or 67 cents
a share, to meet beat miss the estimates of analysts surveyed by Thomson First
Call, who forecast a profit of 46 cents a share on $85 million in revenue.
SigmaTel said it sold more than 14 million system-on-a-chip semiconductor
products for flash and hard-drive MP3 players during the quarter. The chips are
used in processing digital music signals in products such as Apple Computer's (AAPL:
news, chart, profile) iPod shuffle music player.
