Samsung Moves More Production to China Chosun Ilbo, South Korea
Samsung Electronics is rapidly increasing the number of products it makes in
China, with its cheaper line of air conditioners as well as audio, MP3, and
notebook computers sold in Korea now all produced in the world's most populous
country.
Samsung Electronics said Monday it is winding down notebook PC production in
Suwon and moving it to a factory in Suzhou, China. The company started the
relocation process in 2003, relegating the Suwon facility to making advanced
models only. With Monday's move, the Suwon plant will only handle research and
development, marketing, and product planning.
Manufacturing of audio products moved to Huizhou, China in the 1980s, where
home-theater products have also been made since the late 1990s. All MP3 players
are being produced in Huizhou.
