Unveils MP3 Players Korea Times
- Seoul,South Korea
ReignCom will market five new innovative flash-based MP3 player models in the
latter half of the year to consolidate its market lead.
The parent company of South Korea’s No. 1 portable digital music player maker
iRiver yesterday showcased prototypes of models T20, T30 and innovative U10 on
top of its two recent releases _ H10 Junior and T10 _ at the COEX
InteContinental Hotel in southern Seoul.
Among the new models, U10 caught the eyes of reporters, market analysts and
industry experts at the news conference.
U10 is the fruition of an ambitious project called ``Columbus Egg.’’ ReignCom is
counting on its latest device to help iRiver swing back to a profit in the
remainder of the year from a deficit in the first quarter.
The most notable trait of U10, which will be released in 1-gigabyte and
512-megabyte models in early August, is the extremely simple user interface.
Unlike existing compact MP3 players and portable multimedia players (PMPs), U10
does not have small buttons or various types of jog switches.
ReignCom boldly omitted the control switches on U10 by adopting an in-house
developed new-concept interface called ``direct click system.’’ The MP3 player
maker plans to patent the direct touch interface technology.
