Panasonic touts `Oxyride' batteries Bangkok Post, Thailand
Panasonic Siew Sales (Thailand) Co, an arm of Japanese electronics giant
Matsushita, yesterday launched in Thailand its third-generation ``Oxyride''
dry-cell battery, which it claims to offer twice the power of alkaline
batteries.
Panasonic hopes Oxyride, the first of its kind to be launched here, will help
the firm tap new business opportunities, particularly among heavy users of
products such as digital cameras and MP3 players.
The company boasts that the new batteries could quickly erode demand for
conventional alkaline batteries due to the superior power capacity.
Takuya Tanimoto, deputy director for the company's battery sales division, said
company surveys showed battery demand last year was four times the level in
1995, thanks to the popularity of digital cameras and electronic gadgets.
