MP3 players: “Size does not matter” Netimperative, UK
Despite the growing success of portable MP3 players, 98% of
storage space is being wasted either by being left empty or recorded and never
listened to, according to new research.
According to a poll of MP3 player owners by WebTV Europe, of the 5,000 tracks
that can be stored on a standard MP3 machine, on average only 2% is ever used.
The mobile content firm argues that this means that the players could be reduced
in size, capacity and price, but still be as popular and efficient.
It concludes that many consumers would be happy having their favourite 100 songs
available, which could be easily delivered through their mobile phone, rather
than a separate machine.
