Companies Race for Music Phone First

The company likely to see the most adoption will be the one that
capitalizes on the way that phones are becoming small social-network computers,
says IDC analyst Lewis Ward. "There is a great fit for music in cell phones,
because they're very personalized."
Three major phone makers unveiled plans for music-playing phones at the 3GSM
World Congress, a mobile industry gathering being held in the French Riviera.
But the trio could get shown up by a much smaller competitor.
As top companies detailed plans, privately held British firm Sendo is attempting
to stake its claim as the first handset maker to produce a working model.
