Celebs call up
on MP3 cell phones, tell teen asthmatics to take ... Chicago Sun-Times -

Researchers are trying a hip new approach to get teens to take their
asthma medicine.
Asthmatic adolescents are being given free use of MP3 cell phones that play
songs, music videos and video games. Kids hear reminders to take their medicine
and other asthma tips from celebrities such as rapper Ludacris, "American Idol"
winner Ruben Studdard and White Sox designated hitter Carl Everett.
"Kids worship pop culture, and these are their idols," said Sarah Rosenbaum of
Evanston-based SixtySeven Kilohertz Inc., which is developing the system. "We're
trying to teach them that taking their medication is the cool thing to do."
Researchers from Rush University Medical Center and Cook County's Stroger
Hospital are testing the system on 40 kids ages 11 to 17. The system is called
ADEPT -- Adolescents' Disease Empowerment and Persistency Technology.
