Alpine Electronics'
First HD Radio Tuner Alpine (press
release) ALPINE ELECTRONICS UNVEILS FULLY DIGITAL HEAD UNIT
DVA-9965 Head Unit Is Alpine’s First HD Radio Tuner
TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 6, 2005 – With consumer’s digital media consumption on
the rise, it is challenging to develop new automotive environment technologies
to feed this desire, while still providing exceptional sound quality. As an
answer to the call for better digital performance in the vehicle, Alpine
Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of
high-performance mobile electronics, has developed a DVD-based fully digital
head unit that offers superior digital media performance, sound quality and
customization. The DVA-9965 also features Alpine’s proprietary GlideTouch™
technology, and Vivid BioLite™ for the brightest, easiest-to-read color display
in the industry.
“With the rollout of digital broadcasting and the tremendous growth of satellite
radio, an in-dash device capable of handling all digital media is needed for the
automotive environment,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, Brand Marketing,
Alpine Electronics. “This DVD-based, fully digital head unit showcases the
synergy of our superior in-vehicle engineering and today’s advanced digital
sound sources.”
This high-end in-dash DVD/CD/MP3/WMA/AM/FM tuner is Alpine’s first HD Radio
tuner, so users can listen to the AM/FM stations that are now broadcasting in
digital for static-free, clearer reception. The DVA-9965 allows playback of
multichannel music with integrated support for Dolby Digital® and DTS®.
Additionally, consumers can choose from two options for high-quality satellite
radio with Sirius Satellite Radio or XM Satellite Radio with a separate tuner
box and subscription service.
The DVA-9965 features the innovative new GlideTouch technology. GlideTouch is a
small horizontal strip located on the lower front of the unit replacing
traditional preset buttons. Using Alps Electrics’ laptop touchpad technology, it
recognizes the pressure and speed of the user’s fingertip to provide an easy
interface for navigating digital content. Users slide their finger across the
slim bar and press directly on the bar to make a selection, in the same manner
as making a selection with a preset button.
The DVA-9965 is also the first unit with a Vivid BioLite™ display that delivers
the brightest, easiest-to- read display in the industry. It offers the most
colors in the industry at 4,096, and has the highest level of detail with 16,384
pixels of resolution. The display provides a much wider viewing angle than
conventional displays and outstanding visibility, even in harsh daylight. The
A/V sources that are connected to the DVA-9965 are represented on the Vivid
BioLite display via graphical icons.
With the addition of a rear-seat monitor, such as Alpine’s TME-M770 or the new
TME-M710 6.5-inch monitors, users can now have an easy rear-seat entertainment
system. The TME-M770 is Touch Control Ready, so rear-seat passengers have
touch-screen control over the video sources.
The unit is Ready for iPod, has DVD-Video/DVD-R/RW playback and includes
built-in support for MP3/WMA playback. Alpine's exclusive MediaXpander™
technology restores lost detail to compressed digital media, bringing essence
and life back to the music as the artist had originally intended.
The Bass Engine™ Pro features make it easy for consumers to professionally tune
their system’s subwoofer level and phase control, EQ switching, crossover type
(2 or 3-way), crossover slope, high/low pass crossover frequency, band pass
crossover frequency and six-channel time correction. This unit also feature
Alpine’s exclusive Amplifier Link™ technology, which enables drivers to control
up to eight 4-channel or mono amplifiers directly through the head unit.
The DVA-9965 will be available at authorized Alpine dealers in August at a
suggested retail index of $1,600.
